-August 01, 2011: The 'CODE'...and some credits

As promised, I gathered the sources created during this year's challenge into a archive, which can be now freely downloaded in case somebody wants to see how we did what we did.

Also I decided to credit some sources that were helpful in creating it:

Ingemar Ragnemalm's OffscreenToysUtils: http://pascal-central.com/ingemars-corner.html

F.Permadi's helpful tutorial on ray-casting: http://www.permadi.com/tutorial/raycast/rayc7.html (WARNING: has Popups)

And honorable mention to my former highschool friend Jonni Lehtiranta who back in 1999 tought me valuable stuff about reverse-projecting floors ("Mode 7" like rendering)

-August 01, 2011: Summary 1/2

Unfortunately Pukka's attempt on this challenge was very small because [Insert your favorite excuses here]. We got AppleTalk tunneling (and AppleShare) with the GatorBoxes. Some evenings were spent at porting the code for Think C, at creating one fatal bug and looking at disassembly. But that was not much :(

Alright, this year's retrochallenge is nearing end, so it's time for me to wrap up things for my part. Although the flat (floor and ceiling) texture rendering does not work correctly as I did not have time to finish it, I decided to include it as the last feature. Also because colormaps were so easy to implement in the 256 color indexed mode, we have them now too (things fade to black over distance). Pukka still has LOTS and LOTS of things to optimize, but he says he is confident he will finish it all on the last day :-) As the engine is now feature-complete (for retrochallenge purposes at least) and one of the last updates, I will post three pictures of what we ended up with (one photo and two screenshots). Source code and pre-built binary will be posted at later time when retrochallenge ends.
